Vijay’s Theri was the film which brought Thalapathy Vijay and Atlee together. The film was a super hit and led to the blockbuster collaboration of Mersal with Atlee – Vijay combo. And now they have combined again for Thalapathy 63. Theri was a cute film which had Vijay playing the cop who goes into hiding after a tragic incident in his life. The father-daughter relationship was beautifully portrayed and so was the love between Vijay and Samantha. Meena’s daughter played Vijay’s daughter in the film. As always Atlee had packed all the emotional ingredients very well to give us a moving story.
Now sources say that Theri is to be remade in Telugu with Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja as the hero. It must be noted that Ravi Teja’s Vikramarkudu which was remade in all major languages. It was remade in Tamil as Siruthai with Karthi as the hero. The film gave Siruthai Siva the limelight which led to four consecutive films with Thala Ajith. Ravi Teja’s kick was also remade in Tamil as kick with Jayam Ravi. Ravi Teja’s last film release was Amar Akbar Anthony, which made it to the silver screens on November 16 last year. Directed by Srinu Vaitla, Amar Akbar Anthony was bankrolled by Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar, Mohan Cherukuri (CVM) and Praveen Marpuri under the banner Mythrie Movie Makers.
The Theri remake is planned as a Dusshera release this year. Director Santosh Srinivas of Kandireega fame will be wielding the megaphone for the remake and Catherine Tresa will be playing the female lead in it, we hear. It may be noted here that Theri, which was directed by Atlee, was dubbed in Telugu and released under the title Policeodu. Now let’s wait to see how this remake fares. It must be noted that 96 is also being remade in Telugu.
